چکیده

Sand flies are a significant public health concern in many parts of the world where they known to transmit agents several zoonotic diseases humans, such as leishmaniasis. Vector control remains key component anti-leishmaniasis programs and probably will remain so until an effective vaccine becomes available. The sand fly gut microbiota has recently emerged encouraging field for exploration vector-based disease control. In particular, microbiome was previously reported either enhance or inhibit parasite activity depending on species bacteria and, thus, potential alter vector competence. Here, we describe technological advances that currently expanding our understanding composition flies. acquisition microbiomes influenced by abiotic biotic factors, including host immunity, genetics, environment. Therefore, can vary substantially between individuals, life stages, species, over geographical space, this variation likely contributes differences phenotypes, highlighting opportunities novel strategies.

After the existence of phlebotomine sand flies was first reported in China in 1910, the distribution of different species and their role in the transmission of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) have been extensively studied. Up until 2008, four species have been verified as vectors of VL, namely, Phlebotomus chinensis (Ph. sichuanensis), Ph. longiductus (Ph. chinensis longiductus), Ph. wui (Ph. major...
